Our backyard turned into a wintery wonderland as the unexpected snowflakes trickled down in Roswell, Georgia, the weekend of January 18-20. Hurriedly, the Schneider family headed out back to catch the snow in our mouths and twirl around as layers upon layers stuck to the ground. Pamela followed each flake that passed her face with amazement -- if only I could read the mind of a 17 month old girl -- what must she be thinking? The cold sensation on her tongue must have been invigorating for a first-timer! Once the snow covered the ground, Brooks, my little brother in town for a weekend visit, and Scott began the foundation for our four-ball, 7 1/2 foot tall snowman. With gloved hands and smiling faces, both guys tumbled through the back yard rolling snowballs until their strength faltered.
Lifting the heavy snowballs, laughing the entire time, they carefully situated the snowballs one on top of the other creating a mighty-fine snowman. Pamela and Mommy were offering our opinions from the peanut gallery on how to build the best looking, most stable snowman. Of course, we forgot that Daddy Scott is a Yankee and therefore, a professional snowman maker. Have a look for yourself - those boys did a fantastic job and had so much fun doing it! In fact, our snowman lasted almost two weeks after it was first erected. Every morning, Pamela would look outside and say, "No-man," pointing to the ever-melting presence outside. Today, a simple lump of snow on the ground finally disentegrated and Pamela and I waved and said, "Bye, bye, No-man." What a winter wonderful surprise!
